What’s Great About Posing With a Big Book?

13 Apr

I will embark on a photo project that I hope to complete by this summer and I’m looking for a few female models in the LA/OC area between the ages of 18-30. To sum it all up, it involves three things: a park or beach, the novel “Ulysses” by James Joyce and sunshine. If you like two out of the three things or all three, then we can probably work together.

THIS PHOTOSHOOT WILL HAVE NO NUDITY since it will be in a public place and it’s as tasteful as it’s going to get. Since this project will involve no pay (apart from possibly one or two drinks if you’re 21 and older), it’s only great for those looking to get their foot in the door. If you’re interested, please contact me at edfcarrasco [at] gmail [dot] com for more details.

Some of my portraits/examples are below:

BEATMO + Love Grenades at Commonwealth, April 11, 2011

13 Apr

A couple of nights ago, after doing my monthly job of covering local government for a certain website in an undisclosed suburb southeast of Los Angeles, I headed straight to the Commonwealth Lounge in Downtown Fullerton. Why? To see Love Grenades. I had the pleasure of seeing the band open for Little Boots a couple of years back and I am enamored with the band’s flirty, sexy composition. Love Grenades has three things going for them: they’re sexy, they’re confident and they’re mighty talented. To pull off a sound reminiscent to ’60s girl groups in today’s overproduced, autotuned music industry is a great feat!

Before Love Grenades did her set, local heroes BEATMO (most of the band went to La Habra High) shined the audience with all their raw energy. While I’m trying my best to avoid comparisons, I have to say that BEATMO has some Yeah Yeah Yeahs elements…at least that’s what some of the band members that I talked to last night told me. They were right. Alexis (the lead singer) exhibited quite an energetic performance moving up and about throughout. This band deserves some love!

Keep it posted here for last night’s photos and some darn good bands!

Paulie Pesh at the Continental Room

10 Apr

Last month, I had the pleasure to check out Paulie Pesh, which is this large Indie-ish ensemble. If you name an instrument, the band probably has it. Violins, trumpets, horns–it all meshes into some sweet rocking sound. Here’s hoping I will cover this lovely band in the future. If you haven’t downloaded their latest EP “Post Mortem,” check out this link.

Arabian Prince at Continental Room–8/13/10

15 Aug

I admit I’m quite superstitious, but I couldn’t pass an opportunity to see a member of N.W.A (It has no period in the end of the name, so don’t be yelling at me and saying it’s a typo!)–Arabian Prince. So I head to the Continental Room and I noticed that they had a new dancefloor. Nice dark wood paneling I must say. The guy who said he was the owner said that the Continental Room was almost done with its renovation and it’s looking good for them. The drinks are still pricey, but when you’ve got world-class acts like Arabian Prince and 2 Live Crew (I’m still kicking myself for not showing up last month) coming to Fullerton, the renovations are sure as hell worth it.

The music spinned by Arabian Prince and the other DJ’s were mostly 90’s hip-hop and R&B, so of course it was like back in the day when plaid shirts were in fashion (and they’re somewhat in fashion now). While I’m not much of a fan of 90’s hip-hop and R&B, I was ecstatic when they played “Return of the Mack” by Mark Morrison. Here’s some eye candy for you:

DTF Nights–8/12/10

13 Aug

I didn’t know Back Alley Bar & Grill had a resident DJ on Thursdays. Usually, when I go to Back Alley, it’s usually to listen to a live band and watch my friends play billiards. Now there’s people who would normally not go to this bar dancing to Top 40 music. i say good for Back Alley for diversifying. Here’s some pics of last night’s action:

Avenged Sevenfold and such–8/4/10

6 Aug

I was expecting a quiet night in Downtown Fullerton on Wednesday when some girls that my friend met at Back Alley Bar and Grill said that Avenged Sevenfold were at the Slidebar. Really? Obviously when a big band like Avenged Sevenfold comes into Fullerton, one has to do the right thing…check out what the fuss was about it. So me and my friends got there and it turns out, Avenged Sevenfold were celebrating their latest album, Nightmare, getting the number one spot on the Billboard 200. Congrats to M. Shadows, his gang, and the dozens of ladies who came to show up as it was hard for me to get some photos of the band because the ladies took control of the stage! Here’s some that I’ve managed to get:

DTF Nights–7/29/10

2 Aug

Sorry…I was supposed to upload this earlier, but some pressing issues happened.

Went to the Hibbleton Gallery to check out Jesse La Tour’s campaign headquarters (in the gallery) and took some photos. He’s betting on his youthfulness, his love of the city and his plan to expand arts in the city as reasons Fullertonians should vote for him. (Disclosure: I’m not a resident of Fullerton, so I have really no say.)

After the little ditty at Jesse La Tour’s campaign headquarters, I wandered around Downtown Fullerton and took some of these nice photos:

Who is Jesse La Tour?

29 Jul

The few things I know about Jesse La Tour are as follows:

-He’s affiliated with the Hibbleton Gallery.

-He lives in Downtown Fullerton.

-He hosts Nerdy Thursday.

-He’s running for Fullerton City Council.

Hopefully I’ll find out a few more things to put on my list when I go to his kick-off event at the Hibbleton Gallery tonight from 6pm-Midnight. I’ll be covering it for local media, so catch up with me if you can!

DTF Nights–7/23/2010

25 Jul

I went out with some friends to Slidebar (a bar owned by the band Lit) because a friend of a friend is in this band called Stretford End. Unfortunately I came too late. However, I stayed around for a bit, talked to some of the members of Stretford End (they’re pretty cool guys once you get to know them) and saw the band ALEVELA. Pretty good stuff, but they should have stayed away from covering Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.” Here’s how it went down:

Ladies enjoying Alevela.

Not long after Alevela played Lady Gaga’s cover, me and my friends left. My friend HATES anything Lady Gaga–no wonder we left before the set was finished! So we headed to Palapa Grill, met up with some old high school friends and downed some fishbowls.

Since I’ve brought my camera around, people have a fascinating attraction with it. Ladies are willing to have their pictures taken and guys want all the attention.

So here’s how it went down:

This was their first time to Downtown Fullerton. Welcome!

Luis, the birthday boy (left), with his friends. Happy Birthday!

Waiting to cross the street!

More birthday action.

We got all these pedestrians to join in on the action!

24 Jul

After the Nerdy Thursdays event, me and some friends decided to check out bustling Downtown Fullerton nightlife. Here’s what I’ve discovered:
